Fathers Day/Anniversary June 24, 2009

Our 6th anniversary was Saturday, we celebrated Father’s Day then because the thing Wendy wanted to take him to was only open Saturdays.  She took him to the Blue and Grey (Micro)Brewery in Fredericksburg for their tour and free tastings.  He came home with a growler filled with a 1/2 gallon of pale ale.

Our plan is to go to the zoo/aquarium/DC  for our anniversary, but with the Metro situation still fresh, that may not happen for a little while.  We could drive in, but we don’t know enough about town to feel comfortable with that.

In another situation, last week, I woke up in the middle of the night having been “pinched” by a thistle/burr and frantically brushed it off.  The next day, I changed the sheets.  That night, I was pinched again, only this time, I turned on the light and found a bug crawling on me.  Zach insisted that I was only dreaming about a bug on me until he saw it’s gross pinchers and killed it.  It must’ve been living in the comforter, which I hadn’t washed.  I found another one in Wendy’s room on the wall.  It was not as big as mine, but we managed to get a fuzzy picture:

100_2594I know, not enough to identify it with here, but we determined that it is probably some sort of woodworm beetle that eats old wood.  We need to call our pest control guy to take a look.  I haven’t seen any more than the two.  Eeek!

Wendy is really moving.  Also, today I went for my first meeting with SeeMommyRun, a group of women who walk/run with their babies around town.  I met with Stephanie today and we walked the canal path because her knee was hurting.  Turns out, she was roommates in college with a few girls I knew in high school, the Barg twins.  She also knows some people from our old church when we lived in Stafford, the Whittens.  We had a good time, and I’m glad I am finally getting to meet some people.  Because our schedule was a little messed up, Wendy wouldn’t take a nap when we got home and ended up falling asleep in the high chair while I was eating lunch.

That’s about enough for now.  Talk to you later!

Wendy can move! June 20, 2009

Here are the links to the youtube videos of Wendy crawling.  She sometimes uses a foot instead of a knee, but she definitely is going forward.  Sorry about my high pitched voice in the first video.

Wendy 1

Wendy 2 (Notice, she’s really going for the camera strap, not me!)

Also, here are some pictures of the monster in the closet (the oil furnace) as it’s being taken out.  There was some pretty gross stuff in there.

They also took out the oil tank in the backyard, so now it looks nice and clear.

Tomorrow is our 6 year anniversary!  Look at what we’ve become in that time…Here’s a picture from last week of our little family when we all inadvertently dressed in green.

My Birthdfay June 8, 2009

I’ll just leave the title the way it is…kinda humorous.

Zach and I visited the Baptist church downtown and met the preacher – his 3rd/4th (?) cousin.  Gma pointed this out and so we visited:-)

Then, after Wendy’s nap and some yardwork by Zach, we took a hike through the woods at Belmont, the home of Gari Melcher, 19th century impressionist painter.  Zach and I can get into the home and do activities there for free since he is UMW faculty.  We walked around the grounds along the river and it was a beautiful day.100_2562That is a $5 kidpack/stroller I found at a church yard sale last weekend.  Nothing fancy and not high tech, but it is a stroller AND a kid carrier, which is cool.100_2561

We came home, rested, and then Zach made me a nice dinner of bacon-wrapped asparagus, salmon sandwiches with garlic sauce, and orzo pasta salad with garden basil and cilantro.  And watermelon punch.  It was super fantastic.

Edith, Philip, and Peyton came over right before dinner to get the sheets for the co-sleeper they are borrowing for their new baby.  She is being induced TODAY, and probably is in labor at this very moment.  The doctors think her baby will be too big if she goes to her due date, which is next week.  I’ll be excited to meet little baby Yonts sometime in the next day or two.  No picture of them, yet.

Wendy sleeping update:  She gets to sleep pretty quickly at night, around 7pm.  However, her naps are more difficult.  She is almost completely asleep when I put her in the crib, but as soon as she hits the mattress, she flips over on her tummy and crawls around, playing on the bumper pad and crib bars.  Don’t worry, she can’t climb out.  Eventually she falls asleep in some weird position backed into a corner or with a foot sticking out of the crib.  What a cool kid:100_2556

Afternoon at Whalen Pond June 2, 2009

100_2551Since it was rather warm this afternoon, I bought a $5 pool and stuck Wendy in it in her new swimsuit.  We were in the front yard.  I thought I’d be able to put her in with a few toys and do the crossword puzzle, but quickly discovered that this was a 2-person job:  Wendy to pick the grass on the other side of the pool’s edge, and Mommy to keep Wendy from doing a face-plant on the ground.100_2550 All in all, she liked splashing around, I think.100_2552

This is the “I’m done” look:
