Just Me

ahhh… August 25, 2009

Ahhh, today.  Already a success in many ways.

1.  Shopped for a few sale items @Giant

2.  Refilled the hummingbird feeder

3.  Ran the dishwasher AND unloaded it

4.  Chased the frog out of the garage

5.  Sprayed the bermuda grass creeping under the driveway

6.  Re-mailed the application and check for Rappahannock Music Society that was lost in the mail.

7.  Swept the back steps.

It seems like my days are made of these little things…not exhausting on their own, but put all together, you realize you’ve done quite a bit.  And it’s a lot to hold in one’s brain…all the little things you’ve been meaning to do but just didn’t because it wasn’t bothering you enough.  As Zach always says with a smile on his face, “Someone will do it sometime…” And that someone is usually me when it gets on my nerves enough!  But I shouldn’t worry about the little things because they’ll get done sometime or another.

I did something dumb this morning…I sprung out of bed to attack the alarm clock and I skinned my shin on the side of the bed.  It is still throbbing 5 hours later, and I know I’m going to have a beautiful bruise to show for it.  Now to keep Wendy from using that shin to pull up:-)

Our camera is not working.  It seems that we are putting new batteries in it every 15 pictures or so, and then it just flashes a red light and doesn’t open.  I’d like to be able to share some pictures, but I can’t.  Maybe I’ll start looking for a new camera.  How long should one last?  This one is a Kodak EasyShare 4.0Megapixels with a video camera and a big memory card, and we’ve had it since Xmas 2003.

THIS was in my house! August 16, 2009

100_2914Right under the range hood, a katydid decided to hang out.  And when I tried to coax it onto a piece of paper to take it outside, it decided to fly right in my face!  And it got Teddy all riled up, me running through the house trying to get it out of my hair, and now, I have no idea where it is.  Except that it’s still in the house.

Nevertheless, I am being Betty Suzie Homemaker today while Zach is on 24/7 class prep mode.  I am making bread and making yogurt this afternoon.  What are you doing, oh readers of my blog?

Our adventure today! August 15, 2009

I think this is my 5th post today, but I saved it for last because it was quite an adventure.  This morning, Zach, Wendy, and I went to Prince William National Forest, which is about 20 miles north of Fredericksburg.  We wanted to find some spot of nature and peace before the school year starts for Zach, which is next week.  We were pleased to find that it was free weekend, which means we didn’t have to pay $5 .

We headed out with Wendy in tow and snacks in backpack and started “hiking” through the woods.  I say that because there doesn’t seem to be any destination hikes, and not many hills, but there’s a pretty extensive trail system with almost 40 miles of trails.  Plus, a 12 mile scenic road loop that a lot of cyclers use.  Wendy missed the first half:

We continued along, crossing over a wood/cabled bridge:

And we stopped at a creekside bank to have some snacks:

We hiked for about 2.5 hours, which was pretty long with Wendy on our backs.   Zach thinks this will be a good place to do some miles for his training.  Did you know he has a pretty cool goal?

On the way back, it took a long time in the van.  I-95 was slowing down around Garrisonville, so we got off on Rt. 1.  That was going smoothly until we hit traffic waiting at the Falmouth Bridge…from several miles away.  It took us a solid 40 minutes (yes!) to get through the light at the Falmouth intersection.

At least we had a mornings worth of peace and tranquility:

Maybe next time we’ll take Teddy, too!
