Just Me

Some things new. November 28, 2009

Last weekend, my parents and Zach’s parents visited us.  Little did they know they’d be painting the kitchen and installing an over-the-counter microwave and under-the-counter-toaster-oven.  Major thanks to moms and dads.

Next up, the annual AKC dog show that comes on every year after the Macy’s Parade on Thanksgiving.  Wendy LOVED watching the “Teddies” and we listened to her squeal “Teddy!” as she pointed at the TV for about 20 minutes.  Sorry the pictures are so bright…don’t know what happened there:

We had a non-traditional Thanksgiving meal, but a similar one to what we had a few years ago when we did Thanksgiving on our own.  We had grilled mahi mahi and asparagus, garlicky cranberry chutney, butternut squash, and cranberry orange bread.

Wendy wasn’t able to stay awake long enough to have any of this.  She got some leftover squash tonight, though!  Our dessert was Irish sharp cheddar cheese with papaya, starfruit, and pear.

Looks yummy, right?  It was.  I’m glad we were able to enjoy giving thanks today together.  Zach and I don’t get to spend much face to face time since he has so much to do as a 2nd-year professor and I’m always chasing Wendy.  It was really nice to be able to cook and eat together!

Wendy’s new words November 14, 2009

We’ve known for a while that her first word was “Teddy.”  Then came “Daddy.”  Now every animal is a Teddy, and it’s hard to distinguish between Teddy and Daddy.  She also says “Hi!!” very readily.  To anyone.

Recently, she’s added “Shoe,” which sounds a lot like “Shee-ooo.”  She sits in our closet in the mornings and tries to put on all our shoes…already shoe obsessed and at such a young age!  And she says something that sounds a lot like “Oh Sh*t,” which she was repeating over and over again in Marshalls yesterday.  How do I explain that one?  I can’t prove that I don’t go around all day muttering that to myself…I hope those sounds eventually turn into some more pleasant real words really soon.

Zach discovered that she can identify and say “nanananana” when presented with a banana or picture of one.  So that’s pretty cool!  Her vocabulary is starting, and I’d like to supplement it with baby sign, but I’m going to have to search the recesses of my mommy brain for the signs I learned in high school  Or, I could just find them on the internet:-)

I'm walking!!

She really wanted to wear this handkerchief. Really.

So many books...must rest.

She did NOT want to wear the hat.

I know this was a Wendy-heavy post, but really, she’s what’s going on around here!
